My name is Wendy, I’m Mason’s mother and this is his story…
Mason was born with a rare genetic chromosomal mutation and was consequently diagnosed with brain abnormalities and cerebral palsy. As a baby, Mason never crawled or spoke, and missed many of the usual developmental milestones. Since he did not have the strength to sit up independently until he was seven, he developed spinal scoliosis and hip problems serious enough to necessitate 14 surgeries. Mason’s care is complex and expensive: a considerable portion of our time and resources are devoted to our beautiful little boy’s well-being.
When Mason was three years old, a therapist referred us to Quantum Leap Farm. Mason dislikes physical and speech therapy, but when he gets in the saddle he comes alive! He has so much fun with his instructor Jenna, and his horse Idaho, that he doesn’t even know he is receiving therapy. Riding at Quantum Leap Farm has changed Mason’s life – he can now stand and sit up on his own! While riding he is challenged physically, receives positive reinforcement and experiences so much joy! Kids like Mason have to work much harder than typical kids: their disabilities touch every aspect of their lives, limiting their opportunities to make friends or to be chosen for the basketball or soccer team. At the farm, Mason gets to be a typical kid. Quantum Leap Farm provides a rich environment where he can make new friends, socialize with his fellow riders and experience accomplishment.

My name is Jamie, I’m an Operation Iraqi Freedom combat veteran, my organization is Quantum Leap Farm and this is my story…
I served in the 101st Air Division during the Iraq invasion in 2003 with a total of seven deployments. My unit was one of the first in and we had to do things I wish I could forget. While on patrol I lost friends in fire-fights and helicopter crashes and I was injured in an unexposed ordnance explosion. I was lucky to make it home and didn’t deploy again after that.
Earlier this year my wife and I were struggling with some serious medical issues. She was diagnosed with cancer and I was experiencing symptoms related to post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury – it was all too much to manage and I felt like I was drowning. It was then I heard about Quantum Leap Farm’s Warrior Mission: At EASE retreats and my wife knew it was what I needed. Although I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my bubble or my wife during her cancer treatments – she insisted I go.
During the retreat I bonded with a horse named Ganelon. I told him things I’d been holding inside for a long time – things I needed to get off my chest, but had never told another human for fear of being judged. My experience at the farm was so relaxing, suddenly I felt comfortable taking that next step and trying some new things. I forgot there was a whole world outside of my shell. Here is my advice to my fellow veterans – don’t be afraid to take that first step because you won’t regret it. This place works.
Because of financial support from people like you, I was able to experience growth at Quantum Leap Farm. Now I’m asking you to take the first step for the next veteran by giving a gift to Quantum Leap Farm that will benefit veterans like me. Thanks in advance for your kind support.
